Not a confident internet user but want to learn something online? Read on!

E-learning is just like classroom learning, except it’s from the comfort of your own chair – or couch!  Online learning has revolutionised the lives of students; it means anyone, anywhere can access the most up to date and relevant information at any time.

E-learning can work as a virtual classroom, where students and teachers can communicate with ease no matter where they are in the world. But it also means that students don’t have to be in a traditional school-style arrangement at all.

You have probably participated in e-learning without realising it. Have you ever engaged with others in a chat room or forum, listened to a podcast of your favourite radio show, teleconferenced or played games online?  If so, you’re already an e-learner.

Whether you’re learning purely online or through blended learning – both online and in the classroom – your e-learning portal is easy to use and simple to manage.

The Moodle learning management system (or Moodle LMS – a fancy name for the portal) keeps track of everything for you.  The first thing you’ll notice is the user friendly dashboard as you log in – the dashboard is like the portal control centre.

Once you’re familiar with the LMS dashboard, the next thing to have a look at are the communication tools.  These will enable you to chat with fellow students, subject matter experts and your teachers.

The Moodle LMS contains all you need to begin, continue and complete your studies. It’ll keep track of what you’ve studied and suggest what you should look at next… meaning you direct your own rapid e-learning.

The Moodle e-learning system also allows you to check your marks, see where you’ve done well and where you can do better.  There’s also an exportable calendar, so you can record deadlines and assignment due dates and make that work with your other personal activities.

In short, your e-learning system is an effective, efficient and exciting way to study or teach…you can create a personal study space and connect to others when you want to.

And of course, by choosing a Moodle e-learning portal with eCreators, you have access to prompt, expert support when and if you need it. So give us a call to discuss how we can make rapid e-learning work for you!

Whether you’re a Moodle novice or veteran user, there are a number of great features that make using this hosted learning management system really simple. And while there are heaps of reasons why we love Moodle, our team here at eCreators have narrowed it down to these top seven!

1. A super friendly dashboard

The Moodle dashboard is your gateway to everything. If you haven’t used a dashboard before, have a look at an introductory tutorial to get you on the right track. Simple, easy to follow menus lead the way to courses and assignments, as well as online forums so you can chat with fellow students or teachers. Also, your dashboard is fully customisable, so you can get things set up the way you like them!

2. Easy communication

Forget trying to transfer email addresses across to your Outlook inbox. Moodle features an instant messaging service that allows easy two-way dialogue between teachers and students to engage individually or as a group. Teachers can message groups of students, see lists of people on a particular course and contribute to forum threads. It’s a great communication tool that makes everyone feel engaged and involved in online discussions.

3. Share your work

You can share information easily with the Moodle LMS. Teaching resources, files, folders, quizzes, exercises and reports can all be sent and received using the drag and drop feature of the Moodle instant messaging system. Quick to set up and easy to use, this system means you can keep your learning tools and information all in one place… without clogging up your email inbox!

4. Badges

The virtual version of a gold star sticker! When new skills are learnt, a badge can be sent to a student’s profile as a way of acknowledging their hard work and boosting their confidence. Badges can be easily created by the Moodle LMS administrator for a single subject or a whole course and there are free downloadable libraries of colourful, language independent badges online.

5. Track your progress

Last year’s academic report is just a click away with Moodle. Keep track of your marks with the Gradebook, a feature which allows you to view all the marks for a course, sort them into categories or change them from a score to a percentage figure or vice versa. You can also store your badges on Gradebook and admire them along with your great marks!

6. A (very) cool calendar

Fold all your appointments, lectures, study times and meetings into one place with the Moodle calendar. You can colour code events to group them into sections and deadlines are a breeze with the alert system that tells you when assignments are due. It’s simple to add and edit upcoming events and you can invite people to meetings or export your Moodle calendar to other programs.

7. Type straight in

Moodle’s text editor function means you can write and submit course assignments straight to your teacher. Don’t worry, the formatting icons used – such as font, text size and italicising – are user-friendly and similar to those in Microsoft Word. Additionally, there’s an equation editor, which allows you to create maths formulas, quizzes and calculations in 2D and 3D.

Of course, these are just the top seven features we’re excited about, but you may have other ideas. If so, we’d love to hear from you in the comments! Thanks for reading.
